AOMC Tours Midway Machining Inc.
Midway Machining Inc. strives to support local industry—polymer plants, power generation metallurgical plants, US Army Corps of Engineers, and others—and they try to help our local farmers as well.
On July 27, AOMC had an opportunity to tour Midway Machining with our interns Jaden Martin, Colleen McGuire, Nick Sohn, and Evan Adams. We saw firsthand how CNC milling and turning machines are used for machining extremely large parts and how a waterjet cutting machine is used for cutting large steel plates thicker than 12 inches. We also had an opportunity to learn about innovative methods Midway Machining has devised for working with some extremely difficult materials.
In addition, the interns walked away with their own innovative and exciting project. They will work closely with Daniel Murphy, owner of Midway Machining, to convert a manual machine into a CNC machine. This is a great project for our Ohio University engineering student interns, and it’s another great example of the many resources available to AOMC members.
