INTEL training at Ohio University attended by George Bilokonsky

As part of its commitment to provide training for the semiconductor industry stemming from an award from Intel corporation, Ohio University held its first Semiconductor Workshop for Teachers and Professionals June 14-16 on its main campus in Athens. The workshop was designed for classroom teachers, regional campus faculty, community college faculty, & industry professionals interested in learning about current trends and up-coming innovations in semiconductor and microelectronics. Over three days, more than three dozen attendees learned about all aspects of the semiconductor industry including workforce training needs, economic impact of the industry, design, manufacturing, test and evaluation, materials science, and plant operations.

Intel's award to Ohio University has allowed the institution to develop the Appalachian Semiconductor Education and Technical (ASCENT) Ecosystem, an inclusive workforce development and training program to cultivate the next generation of skilled technical professionals for Ohio’s emerging semiconductor industry. Funded through a grant by Intel and led by Ohio University, ASCENT is a broad coalition of institutions, colleges and technical centers across the southeastern Appalachian region of Ohio that will prepare students for career opportunities created by Intel’s arrival to Ohio and growth of the semiconductor and advanced manufacturing industries in the Midwest.
