Thermo Fisher and BB2C help students “Discover Manufacturing"

Building Bridges to Careers coordinated a very successful “Discover Manufacturing” event during October Manufacturing Month. Thermo Fisher Scientific hosted the event on Friday, October 21. 10th-12th grade students from Warren, Fort Frye, Frontier, Washington County Career Center, Veritas, and Belpre had the opportunity to be “in house” for the event. They not only experienced the main career, but also experienced what other careers are employed within these businesses.

Team members focused on what skills and attributes contribute to the success of high functioning team collaboration. The outcome of a process is only achieved by the success of each team member to contribute to the project. The interest from the students has been fantastic!

Students were put into groups and asked to make paper airplanes two different ways—to reinforce the idea that there is more than one way to manufacture something.

Here is what students have said from their experiences:

“The event let me know about work environments in potential job options.”

“It gave me an inside view as to what options there are, and to continue to keep my mind open to new things.”

“Today’s event helped me understand that there are a lot more options to engineering than just behind a computer.”

“This helped me know there are many careers available around this area, and I may change careers multiple times.”

“I liked the Thermo Fisher program, and they have lots of job opportunities.”

“I have a better understanding of the manufacturing workplace environment.”
